Pressboard and pressed wood are types of engineered wood products that are commonly used in the manufacturing of kitchen cabinets. These materials are made by pressing together wood fibers, sawdust, and resin using heat and pressure. Pressed wood is often used as a core material for cabinet doors, while pressboard is used for cabinet panels and shelves.
Pressboard and pressed wood are popular materials for kitchen cabinets because they are affordable, lightweight, and easy to work with. However, they are also less durable than solid wood and can be more prone to damage and warping over time. Additionally, they may emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can be harmful to indoor air quality.
To mitigate the downsides of pressboard and pressed wood, some manufacturers may use low-emission materials or add a veneer or laminate overlay to increase durability. It is important to note that the quality and durability of pressboard and pressed wood cabinets can vary widely depending on the manufacturing process and materials used. When selecting cabinets, it is important to carefully consider the materials and construction techniques used to ensure that they will meet your needs and last for years to come.
