Difference Between American v.s European Style Cabinets

by ehistores Admin 16 Mar 2023

American and European style cabinets are two of the most popular options in kitchen design. While both offer functionality and aesthetics, they have distinct differences that set them apart. Here is a comparison between American and European style cabinets:

One of the main differences between American and European style cabinets is their construction. American cabinets tend to be made of solid wood, often with raised panels or embellishments, giving them a more traditional look. In contrast, European cabinets are typically constructed with flat panels and lack the decorative features of their American counterparts. Additionally, European cabinets often use engineered wood, which is known for its durability and consistency.

Another significant difference between American and European style cabinets is their sizing and layout. American cabinets are typically larger and have more ornate features. They are designed to fit the larger kitchens typically found in American homes. European cabinets, on the other hand, are designed to be more compact and efficient, as they are often used in smaller apartments and homes in Europe. This often means that European cabinets will have more storage options and can fit into tighter spaces.

The way that American and European style cabinets are installed is also different. American cabinets are often installed using face frames, which are wooden frames attached to the front of the cabinet that hide the edges of the cabinet box. This gives American cabinets a more finished look, but it also reduces storage space. European cabinets, on the other hand, are installed without face frames, which allows for more storage space and easier access to the contents of the cabinets.

In terms of aesthetics, American and European style cabinets have distinct looks. American cabinets tend to be more traditional, with ornate details and warm, natural finishes like cherry or oak. European cabinets, on the other hand, are known for their sleek, modern design with simple lines and often come in high-gloss finishes. However, with the rise of transitional design, many manufacturers are now offering a blend of both styles, providing a sleek, modern look with traditional touches.

Overall, the choice between American and European style cabinets comes down to personal preference and the desired look and functionality of your kitchen. American cabinets are a great choice if you want a more traditional, decorative look with plenty of storage space. European cabinets are ideal if you want a sleek, modern design with more storage options in a smaller space. Whatever your preference, both styles offer quality craftsmanship and functionality that will elevate your kitchen design.
